NSDA Last Chance Competitor Info & Reminders

Good luck to @abaas.zaffar @Kavin Saravanan @Suhaib Abdi and @Neha Nair who are competing at Last Chance this weekend!

All tournament details and answers to most questions can be found on the tournament website. Here are some additional details sent to me by the tournament in preparation for this weekend:

Media Release/Student Waiver: prior to Thursday, please download a copy of this entry release form waiver and get it signed. You can leave the signed copy in the right side desk drawer in 279.

SRA: I submitted the SRA request for debaters to be released after 5th period on Thursday and Friday and Speech to be released after 5th on Friday. This should give you enough time to get home, get set up, and run a final test of your technology and internet prior to rounds dropping at 3PM.

Test Your Technology: Please make sure your technology and internet is compatible with NSDA Campus before competition begins. We are unable to troubleshoot technology for individuals' devices during the event. To test, go to campus.speechanddebate.org, type a room name, and select "Test Competition Room" (not "Test Practice Room"). Do this with another person so you can both ensure your camera and microphones are working in the room using the wifi network you plan to compete/judge on!

Schedule: Please review and check the tournament schedule carefully. Arizona is currently on Pacific Time. All students and judges must be in their virtual competition room ready to go 15 minutes prior to round start time.

Additional Rules to Note: Competition event, evidence, and internet rules in the Unified Manual apply to this event. Remember that Duo competitors must perform in the same room on the same screen. NSDA rules related to online competition apply: Competitors may not use green screens, virtual backdrops, on-screen text, or professional equipment enhancements such as professional lighting kits or professional grade camera recording and audio devices during their performance in any event. Professional equipment includes items like softboxes or an auditorium’s lighting system; use of these items is not permitted. Backdrops of a solid color with no special markings may be used.

Rounds and Qualifiers: Here is what the tournament sent yesterday:

  • Lincoln-Douglas and Big Questions: These events will do 6 preliminary rounds. All 4-2 records will clear to a single elimination bracket and continue until 16 qualifiers have been determined. In LD, we anticipate a partial quad, a triple, and a double octafinal being held (3 elims). In BQ, we anticipate a partial triple and a double octafinal being held (2 elims).

  • Original Oratory and Informative will do 4 preliminary rounds. The top 102 will clear to a double octafinal, the top 60 will advance to an octafinal, and 30 will advance to a quarterfinal (3 elims). The top 16 will qualify.
